City of Tshwane announces a 9-hour power outage on Sunday

The City of Tshwane has announced a planned power outage for Sunday, 23 March, due to a sinkhole that has compromised the Cornwall Hill 132kV substation. The power outage, set to last nine hours from 8:00 to 17:00, will affect multiple residential and business areas.

Urgent repairs due to sinkhole will cause a power outage

City officials confirmed that the sinkhole has severely damaged the substation’s infrastructure, making immediate intervention necessary.

To ensure the stability of the electricity supply, technicians will relocate critical components to a safer location.

The following areas will experience a power supply interruption:

  • Cornwall Hill Estate
  • Doornkloof plots
  • Irene Mall
  • Rietvlei Heights
  • Rietvlei Ridge
  • Route 21 Business Park

Residents Advised to Take Precautions

The city urged affected residents and businesses to prepare for the outage and take necessary precautions. Officials reminded customers to treat all electrical outlets as live during the outage to avoid potential hazards.

“Customers are advised to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times,” the city’s statement read.

To report any power-related issues, residents can contact the City of Tshwane’s customer care centre at 012 358 9999 (option 3) or send an SMS with the word “power” followed by their account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.

Apology for the Inconvenience

City officials acknowledged the inconvenience the outage may cause and assured residents that efforts will be made to restore power as soon as possible.

“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned scheduled work,” the city added.
