City of Cape Town to no longer issue printed municipal bills

The City of Cape has sent out a reminder to inform residents that printed municipal bills will no longer be sent out after 31 December 2025.

Residents will need to make the switch to emailed municipal accounts before the end of this year, as printed versions will be completely stopped.

According to the City, more than 452 000 residents have already made the change to emailed accounts, and the rest are seriously encouraged to.

Why the change to emailed municipal bills?

The City states that emailed municipal bills have a number of benefits, including:

  • Improved efficiency: customers can pay their accounts as soon as they are able to
  • Reduced errors: customers are also able to better track their payments
  • Easily accessible for proof of residence as needed
  • Reduced environmental impact: reducing paper waste also benefits the environment and City
  • Reduced costs: eliminates the need for paper and postal delivery costs

“For those residents who do not have access to an email address, please contact our City Call Centre on 0860 103 089 or visit your nearest Customer Interaction Centre. Make the switch today and don’t wait until the last minute, when volumes of registrations are expected to spike. Help us build a future-fit and sustainable Cape Town,” the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi said.

Cape Town residents who want to switch over can send an email or SMS with their account number and email address to: email: Revenue.Eservices@capetown.gov.za or SMS: 31223.
