China is almost ready to showcase what is expected to become the world’s tallest bridge, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou province. Once it is complete, it will drastically reduce travel time across the canyon from the current 70 minutes to just over one minute.
You can watch a video of the bridge here.
Engineering Feat Nears Completion
According to China Daily, more than 95% of this project has been done and dusted with. China was only left with the installation of bridge deck panels which was expected to be completed before April, but no updates have been given since. The main structure was completed in January. The focus has now shifted to installing the deck, followed by anti-corrosion work on the main cables and infrastructure projects such as mechanical and electrical equipment. It is estimated that the bridge will open to the public in the second half of 2025.
Just how Tall is the World’s Tallest Bridge that China is building?
According to Daily Mail, this engineering marvel stands approximately 625 meters (2,050 feet) above the Beipan River, surpassing the height of the Eiffel Tower twice over. The bridge stretches 2,890 meters (1.8 miles) in total length, with a main span of 1,420 meters (4,659 feet).
Boosting Regional Connectivity and Tourism
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is expected to enhance regional connectivity by strengthening economic ties between neighboring cities such as Guiyang, Anshun, and Qianxinan. The bridge will also boost the economy as they plan to make it a significant tourist attraction that will showcase China’s engineering prowess. The bridge contributes to Guizhou’s goal of becoming a world-class tourist destination.
Do you think the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge will set a new standard for engineering marvels worldwide?
