‘Mutizwa is a good striker and a perfect match for Kaizer Chiefs,’ Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe told kickoff.com.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana striker Siyabonga Nomvethe thinks Amakhosi should snap up Zimbabwean striker Knox Mutizwa ahead of the new season.

Mutizwa is reported to have been fired by Golden Arrows earlier this month. The Warriors forward has a habit of scoring against Amakhosi , doing so again for Arrows this season in a 2-1 Betway Premiership victory over Amakhosi on March 29.

Chiefs’ nemesis

Mutizwa, indeed, has scored for Arrows against Chiefs in each of the last four seasons. If he has been fired, Amakhosi would be able to sign the 31 year-old without paying a transfer fee.

“Mutizwa is a good striker and a perfect match for Kaizer Chiefs,” Nomvethe told kickoff.com

“You can see how Golden Arrows have struggled in his absence; I wouldn’t mind if Chiefs signed him.

“Mutizwa is a quality striker who knows how to score. Chiefs should sign him now. At 31, he should be at the peak of his career, and his experience could greatly benefit Kaizer Chiefs.

“You can have young players, but in certain situations, a lack of experience can hinder the conversion of scoring opportunities.

“As a Chiefs player, you need to work hard because it’s a big club. Playing for Chiefs is not a vacation; you have to perform well. Scoring goals is the only way to keep Kaizer Chiefs supporters happy.

“Mutizwa’s awareness inside the box can help Kaizer Chiefs immensely. He is clinical, he understands the game, and when he wants to score, he often does. He is a talented striker who isn’t greedy and can capitalize on even the smallest chances to find the net.”

Amakhosi have had well-documented problems in attack for some time, failing to find reliable goalscorers in the transfer market.

A middling scoring record?

What may put Amakhosi off, however, is that if Mutizwa’s record against Chiefs is good, he has not exactly been prolific for most of the nine seasons he has been with Arrows. He has, indeed, only hit double figures once in a Premiership season, scoring 13 times for Arrows in the 2019/20 campaign.
