Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssefhas revealed the technical team’s timeline to win the fight for the league.
Amakhosi have never been anywhere close to being league title contenders since the 2019-20 season when they finished second on the log.
And this was when Ernst Middendorp led the Chiefs technical team before being sacked and replaced by Gavin Hunt.
Now, last season, Chiefs endured their worst ever season in topflight football as they finished 10th on the PSL log.
That prompted the Chiefs hierarchy to make coaching changes by bringing in Nasreddine Nabi and his backroom staff.
And while the start of Nabi’s era looked promising, consistency appears to be a huge challenge for the Glamour Boys.
Now, according to Ben Youssef, the project at Chiefs will only yield results, in terms of fighting for the league, in two or three years.
As things stand, the Soweto giants are placed fifth on the log with 21 points from their 14 games, and they are certainly not in the title race.
KAIZER CHIEFS SET LEAGUE TITLE CONTENTION TIMELINE
“To be honest with you, what we’ve discussed about the project at Kaizer Chiefs is to beat the other teams then next year or in two or three years it’s to fight for the league,” said Ben Youssef as per SABC Sport.
“We have to come back. When I was young, I remember I used to see Kaizer Chiefs in the African Cup [Mandela Cup] in the finals or semifinals, it was one of the best teams in Africa,” he added.
ISN’T IT WAY TOO LONG?
