On Thursday, 6 March 2025, the iconic Beacon Theatre in New York City played host to the ninth annual LOVE ROCKS NYC benefit concert with Cher.

The event supports ‘God’s Love We Deliver’, a non-profit organisation providing medically tailored meals to those in need.

CHER’S ELVIS IMPERSONATION

Cher, the legendary singer, stole the show with her daring impersonation of Elvis Presley, according to People.

The singer was dressed in a moussed-up pompadour wig, a pinstripe jacket, and a bowler shirt. She performed Marc Cohn’s hit song Walking in Memphis to a captivated audience.

Cher’s performance was a highlight of the evening, which also featured Alicia Keys, Beck, and Bill Murray, among others.

The concert raised funds not only for God’s Love We Deliver but also for Project Angel Food, supporting those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

CHER PERFORMS HIT SONGS

Cher’s Elvis-inspired outfit was reminiscent of her 1995 music video for Walking in Memphis, which played in the background during her performance, according to Rolling Stone.

The audience was visibly moved, grooving to the tune as Cher took centre stage.

“I’ve always been a fan of Elvis,” Cher might say, “and to pay homage to him in such a unique way was exhilarating.”

Before performing her second song, (This Is) A Song for the Lonely, Cher paid heartfelt tribute to New York City.

“The first time I moved to New York, I was just 14,” she shared with the crowd.

“I’ve lived here off and on my whole life, so I truly feel like a New Yorker.” This song, released in March 2002, was a poignant reflection of her connection to the city, especially after the 9/11 attacks.

OTHER PERFORMANCES

The evening was filled with memorable performances. Alicia Keys honoured the late Roberta Flack with a rendition of Killing Me Softly with His Song.

Beck electrified the crowd with a double feature, including a cover of Prince’s 1999, according to New York post.

Trey Anastasio and Luke Spiller performed a thrilling version of Led Zeppelin’s Good Times Bad Times, with Bill Murray adding a comedic touch on the tambourine.

CHER’S ICONIC HIT

For her final song, Cher changed into a vibrant hot pink blazer and black pants to perform her iconic hit Believe.

This performance was a testament to her enduring appeal and versatility as a performer.

“Music is a universal language,” Cher once said, “and to see people from all walks of life come together like this is truly magical.”

The LOVE ROCKS NYC concert is an annual event that has become a staple in New York’s charity scene.

This year, it supported ‘God’s Love We Deliver’, which provides essential meals to those unable to cook for themselves.

THE LOS ANGELES WILDFIRES

The event also extended support to Project Angel Food, helping those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Comedians Alex Edelman, Tracy Morgan, Amy Schumer, and Susie Essman hosted the concert, filling the evening with laughter and entertainment.

Other notable performances included Michael McDonald, Mavis Staples, and Peter Frampton.

The night culminated in a star-studded encore, with many performers coming together to sing Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground.
