Kaizer Chiefs could let go of Edson Castillo to accommodate a marquee foreign arrival. Who could that be?
Castillo to free up a foreign spot at Kaizer Chiefs?
Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino is registered as a local player after obtaining South African citizenship. However, if Chiefs want to sign foreign players like Fiston Mayele, they’ll need to de-register one of their existing foreign players. Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo is reportedly a player Chiefs are willing to cut in order to accommodate new arrivals. This is according to the Citizen.
Could Zajmovic fill Castillo’s spot at Kaizer Chiefs?
30-year-old Bosnian star Dzenan Zajmovic has been a late bloomer in his career. However, his 2024-2025 season numbers of eight goals and three assists in 22 Betway Premiership appearances are indicative of a guy who can do a job in South Africa’s PSL. Only Sundowns pair Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa have scored more than the 1.90m tall marksman this term. His record of a direct goal contribution every other game has raised a few eyebrows.
Ntwari following Castillo out the door?
According to the Citizen, Kaizer Chiefs will sell Fiacre Ntwari to free up a foreign slot in their squad. The club has big transfer plans in the winter, and some of those include recruiting players from far and wide. Ntwari arrived with a big reputation and a big transfer fee, but he hasn’t turned out to be the replacement for Itumeleng Khune that the club envisaged. This term, the Number 1 role between the sticks has been shared by Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma, although the latter has been the firm favourite in recent months.
Would you be sad to see Castillo go?
