‘I like to have a big crowd so we can make the next three points,’ said the Sundowns head coach.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has called on the club’s supporters to fill up Loftus Stadium for their Betway Premiership clash with Chippa United on Wednesday.

Sundowns moved ever-closer to an eighth consecutive title with a 2-0 win at Cape Town City on Saturday evening.

Sundowns’ Cardoso – ‘The next match will be difficult’

Cardoso’s side can even effectively seal the deal if Orlando Pirates lose to Golden Arrows this evening and they then take down the Chilli Boyz.

“The next match will be difficult … Chippa United (are) a team that we haven’t played yet. But we are going to play at home in front of our fans. I hope they can fill the stadium,” Cardoso said at the post-match press conference following the City game on Saturday.

“I like to have a big crowd so we can make the next three points because they can be very decisive in a way we are going to approach the last three matches.”

Sundowns have an extra incentive, of course to get the Premiership title wrapped up as soon as possible.

The Tshwane giants will look to win the Caf Champions League for the second time in their history when they take on Egypt’s Pyramids in the final.

‘We are closer’

For now, however Sundowns must focus on the task at hand.

“Of course, with each match that passes, we are closer,” added Cardoso.

“But we still have to collect points and there is a big respect for the next game.”

”Being humble is a value that is important because it keeps us focused on what we have to do … I think finishing this championship in the right way … is what we must do.”

Even if Sundowns don’t manage to kill off the title race this week, they will have another chance to do so on Sunday when they are at home to Stellenbosch.

Pirates won’t be playing in the league as they take on Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final.
