Cape Town crowd comes alive as Bafana thrash Sudan

Bafana Bafanathrilled the Cape Town crowd with a convincing 3-0 victory over South Sudan on Tuesday evening at the Cape Town Stadium.

The win saw South Africa top their group marking the end of their Africa Cup of Nationsqualifier campaign without a single defeat.

Goals from Iqraam Rayners, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Teboho Mokoenashowcased Bafana’s dominance in the match. Returning to Cape Town for the first time in a decade, Bafana started strong, taking control of the game early on.

They were rewarded in the seventh minute when Oswin Appollis set up Iqraam Rayners, who scored the opening goal. Bafana extended their lead with a second goal from Patrick Maswanganyi. Teboho Mokoena’s initial shot was stopped by the Sudanese goalkeeper, Majak Mawith, but Maswanganyi was quick to react and pounced on the rebound, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Despite creating numerous opportunities, Bafana were unable to score a third goal in the first half. However, a well-executed one-two between Khuliso Mudau and Thapelo Morena resulted in a penalty for South Africa. Mokoena confidently converted the penalty, adding to the team’s tally. Although Bafana dominated possession throughout the match, they could not find a fourth goal against Sudan.

Late in the second half, Bafana coach Hugo Broos gave Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephenshis debut. The 33-year-old made his Bafana debut at the age of 33, making him one of the oldest player to make their first appearance for the South Africa.
