Cape Town City FC have been dealt a blow with the injury of midfielder Fortune Makaringe, who will be on the sidelines for quite some time.

The Citizens confirmed the sad news on Monday afternoon ahead of their Betway Premiership tie against Polokwane City FC on Wednesday night.

The game between the Cape club and Rise and Shine will take place at Athlone Stadium, with the encounter set to start at 19:30.

Makaringe joined CT City in July 2024 following his departure from the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

Since his arrival at CT City, the talented attacking midfielder has played eight games across all competitions for the Eric Tinkler-coached side.

WHAT KIND OF INJURY DID FORTUNE MAKARINGE SUSTAIN?

Makaringe has sustained an ankle injury and will be on the sidelines for an “extended period of time”, as stated by the club.

This is a big setback for coach Tinkler and the club as the season just started. The player showed a glimpse of delivering decent displays in the games that he has featured for the team. Now, Tinkler will have to look for someone who will take Makaringe’s position while the ex-Pirates star is nursing his injury.

As things stand, CT City are placed 13th on the Betway Premiership table with five points from five outings.

Meanwhile, Thabo Nodada is on the road to full fitness. The player is keen to return to the field of play and add value to the team.

“I’m feeling good, but I’m still working on my fitness and being cautious. My focus is on making a long-term contribution to the squad. This is not just for a single game,” said Nodada in conversation with the club’s media department.
