Calls for public to assist in finding kidnapped Bloem teen

Free State Education MEC Mamiki Maboya, has appealed to the public to assist the police in finding Bloemfontein teen Kamogelo Baukudi and bringing him back home safely. 

The Grade 11 learner was kidnapped on his way home by two men who impersonated police officers on 5 June. Despite the tireless efforts of the police to locate him, Kamogelo remains missing.

A prayer service was held at Martie du Plessis Special School in Fichardtpark, Kamogelo’s school, to show support for the family and Kamogelo during this difficult time.

Maboya said they are also concerned and would like to make an appeal to the members of the public to assist the police, to assist the family, so that they bring the 19-year-old back to the family and back to the school. 

Additionally, the department is working closely with the police and other stakeholders to ensure Kamogelo’s safe return. 

A search task team has also been launched to find Kamogelo and the suspects. 

“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. We appeal to all stakeholders to work together to support Kamogelo’s family during this challenging period. 

“The department’s priority is Kamogelo’s safety, and we are committed to working with the police to bring him home,” Maboya said. 

COP ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH DISAPPEARANCE OF BLOEM TEEN 

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old police sergeant appeared in court last week in connection with the disappearance of Kamogelo Baukudi.

Following the arrest, Free State police commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, reiterated the SAPS’s unwavering commitment to uncovering the full truth behind the heinous crime.

Motswenyane said the investigation has now entered a crucial phase. 

 “The involvement of any SAPS member in criminal acts will not be tolerated. Culprits will be held accountable – even if they are within our own ranks,” Motswenyane said.
