Bushiri urges NPA to reconsider decision to auction his private jet

Self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri says the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decision to auction his R50 million private jet raises serious concerns about the fairness and impartiality of the South African justice system, particularly in cases involving foreigners.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria granted the NPA an order to auction the private jet which has been grounded at Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg since Bushiri and his wife fled to Malawi in 2020.

SHEPHERD BUSHIRI SLAMS NPA’S DECISION TO AUCTION HIS PRIVATE JET

Following the court order, Bushiri said the recent announcement by the NPA to sell his private jet has left him astonished, given the circumstances surrounding this decision.

Bushiri said the NPA’s justification for this action is to recover funds allegedly lost due to crimes he committed, which they claim will be used to compensate victims.

“However, I must remind the NPA and the public of the events that transpired in the Malawi courts. The same allegations brought before the Malawi courts were dismissed as ‘mere accusations’ and the case was removed from the court list. It is perplexing that the NPA would proceed with selling my private jet over charges that have already been dismissed by a competent court,” the fugitive pastor said.

THE ORIGIN OF THE ALLEGATIONS

At the heart of the matter is a forex platform introduced to his Enlightened Christian Gathering Church by two individuals who reportedly disappeared into thin air after many congregants invested in the platform, with initial investors receiving double their investment.

Bushiri said after the two disappeared, he decided to use his resources to reimburse the victims, totalling over R70 million Rands, however, the media and authorities have overlooked this.

FUGITIVE PASTOR RAISES CONCERNS ABOUT THE SOUTH AFRICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM

In addition, Bushiri has once again questioned the country’s justice system saying the decision to sell his private jet raises serious concerns about fairness and impartiality, particularly in cases involving foreigners.

“It appears that the NPA is more interested in pursuing me rather than addressing the real culprits.

“In light of these events, I am not surprised by the NPA’s decision to sell my jet. However, as long as I remain in Malawi, I will continue to speak out against these injustices. In conclusion, I urge the NPA to reconsider its decision and consider the facts presented. The sale of my private jet is unjust and seems to be a clear case of persecution. I hope that a thorough review of this matter will be conducted, and justice will be served,” he added.

Meanwhile, in March, Bushiri and his wife Mary appealed the Malawi Magistrate’s Court ruling that approved their extradition to South Africa.
