Broos names Orlando Pirates replacement for Zwane at Bafana

Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos has reserved some praise and a bit of defence for one of the six Orlando Pirates players in his national squad.

Orlando Pirates star Maswanganyi still has his critics for Bafana Bafana

Pirates playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi arrived as a substitute for Themba Zwane after the experienced Sundowns playmaker went down with an achilles injury. Some fans in Mzansi weren’t delighted with Maswanganyi’s display.

Here’s what he said, via iDiskiTimes:

“I don’t think Patrick did have already a good opportunity, he was always coming in the game,” he told journalists.

“And it was not so easy to come in the game in Congo, because we suffered in that game. And then it’s not easy for a team, for a player who plays his first minutes with the Bafana Bafana immediately to have an important role.

“So for him, it’s also a little bit to adapt on our way of playing, on what I’m asking from him, on that position.

“So okay, we will see in the next games, and we will evaluate. But I’m still believing that he has the potential to replace Themba. He didn’t show it for the moment in Bafana Bafana, but okay, we will see.

“Have a little bit patience, and maybe in a few months we have to say no or maybe yes, we will see.”

Maswanganyi does the job for Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates have become a well-drilled unit from front to back, specialising in winning big knockout matches on the grand stages. Now, they’re becoming even more than a cup team. With seven wins from seven in the league, a first Betway Premiership crown since 2012 could be beckoning. At the heart of it all is Bafana Bafana star Patrick Maswanganyi. The 26-year-old from Thembisa has experience in {Portugal with Oliveirense. He sparkled in the 2023-2024 season, pulling the strings behind Tshegofatso Mabasa and providing five goals and five assists in the league. The puzzle pieces around him might change from time to time, but Maswanganyi is always there.

Should Maswanganyi be trusted as a regular for his country?
