Royal AM have been expelled from the PSL following the voting by the league’s Board of Governors (BoG) on Wednesday.
As reported by The South African, the league’s BoG convened TODAY (Wednesday) to decide the fate of Royal AM.
Last week, the PSL ExCo recommended that Royal AM be expelled from the league for failure to honour their fixtures in 2025.
Now, BoG, consisting of 31-member clubs voted voted for Royal AM to be expelled from the PSL.
The latest developments change the face of the Betway Premiership log with teams either going up or down.
The season’s Betway Premiership will see teams play 28 games instead of 30 now that Royal AM are no more.
Furthermore, there will be no automatic relegation this term, but that a team that finishes 15th will still go to the playoffs.
THE DEMISE OF ROYAL AM
The last time Royal AM played a competitive match was on 29 December 2024 when they lost 3-1 to TS Galaxy.
They were then dealt a major blow with SARS going after their president Shauwn Mkhize and eventually taking over the club via curatorship.
Royal AM were recently put up for auction as SARS attempted to recover all the monies owed to them by MaMkhize.
However, the auction was unsuccessful as the highest bidder, Global Investments failed to make a full payment at a stipulated time.
