The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations were announced on Friday, 8 November. The nominations have undoubtedly thrust the prestigious awards into the top trends.
Rising stars winning big on the global stage, including Renne Rapp and Tyla, failed to make it on the list, while Ariana Grande came short in major categories.
2025 GRAMMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS
However, other nominees, such as Taylor Swift’s ‘Fortnight,’were seemingly ill-suited or out of place.
Despite getting shut out of the 2024 Country Music Association Awards earlier this year, Beyoncé leads the pack at the 67th annual Grammy Awards with 11 nods for his ‘Cowboy Carter.’
However, despite having 11 nods, Beyoncé will face off against familiar faces for all three major prizes, including Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift.
No doubt this year’s slate of nominations isn’t all predictable pop-star fare. Some fan-favourite biggest acts were excluded from key categories, while other artists received surprise nods.
Tyla’s snub has since left music lovers divided. The star has been in the winning laneof late.
The Grammy award-winning artist who won her first-ever Best African Music award was expected to win more accolades in 2025, but she failed to get a nod for her album.
Her smash hit ‘Water’ signalled a new era for the genre-bending singer. However, she failed to score any nominations at the 67th annual Grammy Awards.
Tyla’s work was considered in the R&B category and Best Progressive R&B Album. However, against the snub, popular culture blog Pop Crave posted, “Tyla snubbed with 0 GRAMMYs nominations this year.”
SOUTH AFRICAN ARTISTS MISS OUT
Popular, controversial blogger Musa Khawula posted, “All South African acts who had submitted for Grammy Consideration are snubbed, including Tyla, The Joy, TitoM, and Yuppe.
“Tyla, The Joy, TitoM & Yuppe submitted their work in various categories.”
Other South African artists who had applied for the 67th Grammy Awards consideration also failed to earn nominations.
The Joy Choir, who worked with Doja Cat, had submitted applications in various categories but could not make it. TiToM and Yuppe also failed to get nominated for any Grammys.
