Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy is a free agent following a two-year stint at Manchester United.

The Champions League winner has enjoyed success in the PSL before with AmaZulu, finishing second, qualifying them for the CAF Champions League – the first time in the club’s history.

But it seems McCarthy has his heart set on coaching overseas, with the MLS interesting him.

MLS inbound?

In a lengthy conversation On The Whistle Podcast, the former Premier League striker confirmed America’s lure, saying, “What next for me? I think it’s clear that after leaving United, I think that passion for wanting to be a head coach again that brew through,” he said told the

“I think that is the next step for me. Whether it’s to go back to Africa, the African continent to manage one of the big team, the important teams with the knowledge that I’ve gained from working at a team like Manchester United on a global scale, which is up there with Real Madrid, the best teams in the world.

“When you’ve been there, gained those type of experiences, you want to go back [to a top club]. If you do go back to the continent, that would be amazing, to manage a team on the continent and trying to make them also one of the power houses in African football but to also try and achieve to reach a final when you play in the Club World Cup – that would be the aim to do that.

“Or even the MLS interests me a lot. Bradley Carnell did exceptionally well in his first season with St. Louis, I don’t [know] where it went wrong after that.

“But Bradley has gone out there and shown himself what he’s capable of doing. And opportunities like that, I would welcome. Because I think I’ve got what it takes to manage there, to make players better and to help teams achieve goals they maybe have not achieved in the last few years.

“It’s just about getting the opportunity.”

Any club would be lucky to have you, we can’t wait to see you back on the sideline.

Where do you think Benni McCarthy will end up?
