Bafana secure a 3-0 win over South Sudan in AFCON qualifiers

Bafana Bafana secured a 3-0 win over South Sudan in a 2025 AFCON qualifier match to claim the top spot in Group K at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.

As a result, Hugo Broos‘ team finished first in Group K with a total of 14 points from six games. South Africa won four matches and drew two in those six games.

Interestingly, Bafana finished the CAF 2025 AFCON qualification campaign without losing a match home and away under the tutelage of the Belgian mentor, Broos.

RONWEN WILLIAMS REACHES 50TH BAFANA BAFANA CAP

Bafana captain Ronwen Williams made his 50th cap for South Africa when the side got the better of South Sudan in the AFCON qualifier encounter.

‘Ronza’, as he is well known, made his Bafana debut a decade ago when South Africa suffered a 5-0 defeat to Brazil at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

On that fateful day, Williams had to face a harsh lesson by retrieving the ball from the back of the net five times.

BAFANA BAFANA PLAYED IN A SOLD-OUT AFFAIR

Tickets for this evening’s AFCON qualifier showdown between South Africa and South Sudan at DHL Cape Town Stadium were officially sold out a few hours before the game.

The atmosphere at Cape Town Stadium was electric as the fans showed up in large numbers to cheer on the national team.

Forty thousand tickets were purchased for the match, with football fanatics witnessing Bafana defeat South Sudan in Cape Town.

IQRAAM RAYNERS AND PATRICK MASWANGANYI GET THE JOB DONE

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners found the back of the net as early as seven minutes into the game to put Bafana in front, whereas Orlando Pirates star Patrick Maswanganyi added to the scoreline in the 22nd minute of the contest.

Meanwhile, Teboho Mokoena of Sundowns scored the third goal from a spot kick in the 50th minute to seal a win for South Africa.

BAFANA BAFANA SET NEW RECORD

Bafana set a new record as they netted a total of 16 goals during the AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign. This is their highest-ever score in an AFCON qualifying round.

South Africa only conceded five goals throughout the AFCON qualification campaign.
