Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha’s father at the Youth Day performance in Umlazi
Babes Wodumo had an emotional moment during her Youth Day performance in Umlazi, Durban, when she reconnected with the father of her late husband, Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo.
The beloved gqom star was performing at the EFF’s Youth Day celebration when she noticed Mampintsha’s father, Thembinkosi Maphumulo, among the crowd.
She later brought him to the VIP section, where they shared heartfelt moments and reflected on memories of the late musician.
Their unexpected reunion happened on a meaningful date, the birthday of Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo’s son.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Babes expressed how much the encounter meant to her, especially on such an emotional day.
“June 16 has always been a bittersweet day for us since our son was born. Every year, I have to leave him to go work instead of celebrating his birthday because it’s a busy day for me as an artist, even when his father was alive,” she shared.
Although she and Mampintsha’s father have maintained a relationship, Babes admitted they don’t get to see each other often.
“We were in the neighbourhood where Mampintsha grew up. I was excited to see the father of my husband, it reminded me of Mampintsha, who used to call him Mseshi. What excited me is I met him on his son’s birthday. We were together until about 10pm,” she added.
