Durban water shutdown from 8 April
Residents in and around Durban are being asked to get ready for a possible 24-hour water shutdown, as uMngeni-uThukela Water is expected to pause operations at the Wiggins Water Treatment Works from 4:00 on Tuesday, 8 April 2025.
According to reports, repair teams will be replacing a 1200mm gravity sales meter and inspect pipeline meters for billing accuracy.
Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo revealed that while the planned shutdown is expected to last just one day, full recovery could take up to two weeks, especially in high-lying areas where reservoirs take longer to refill.
“In order to prepare for the shutdown, Umgeni-uThukela Water will fill up all affected reservoirs to capacity but we urge communities to use water sparingly. This will help the system to recover in the shortest possible time.” Maphumulo said as per East Coast Radio.
