Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to sign Durban City‘s star midfielder Athini Jodwana, who has impressed the club.
The 31-year-old has been one of the best players in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The midfielder came from the bench during the Nedbank Cupsemi-final loss to Marumo Gallants last month.
Soccer Laduma reported that Kaizer Chiefs were monitoring Jodwana.. The 31-year-old is not Amakhosi’s first option, but should they fail to sign their desired players, they might sign the Durban-based star.
“He is one of the local players that they have been monitoring. They are exploring all possibilities as they may not sign some of the desired and wanted players. But he is a very good midfielder with experience having played for Chippa United before. So as much as they have enquired about him, they are still believed to be looking at finalising their shopping list for next season and Athini Jodwana is one of them.
Kaizer Chiefs signed 10 players this season
Chiefs brought in Nasreddine Nabiand his technical team this season, hoping to return to glory days. Despite a good start to the season, the team has failed to compete for top honours. After 23 matches, Chiefs sit eighth in the Betway Premiership with just eight wins. With 10 new players signed, fans were hoping for a much-improved Amakhosi side.
The only positive from this season is that they might win the Nedbank Cup. Kaizer Chiefs face Mamelodi Sundowns later this month in the semi-final of the competition. It remains to be seen if Amakhosi can end their trophy drought.
