A powerful cold front is set to impact Gauteng and other parts of the country next week, bringing damaging winds and isolated rain showers.

Just two weeks ago, the country faced its first major cold front of the year, and it appears that cold, icy weather will be the norm in June. This week, most regions have experienced relatively warm temperatures, with the exception of the Western Cape.

When can residents of Gauteng expect the cold front?

Temperatures are anticipated to drop significantly starting Thursday. The forecast for Johannesburg predicts a minimum temperature of 5°C and a high of 15°C on Thursday.

Similar temperatures are expected on Friday and Saturday, with maximums lingering in the mid-teens throughout next weekend.

How long will the cold front last in Gauteng?

The cold front is set to persist until the weekend however, no official statement has been released by the South African Weather Service yet. The latest weather forecast from AccuWeather suggests the cold weather will persist from next Thursday going into the week.

Going into this weekend, Gauteng residents can enjoy relatively warm weather. Pretoria will experience a maximum of 20°C for both Saturday and Sunday, while Johannesburg reaches a high of 19°C.

The cold front will hit Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo from Thursday.
