‘America is right to cut funding to South Africa’

South African-born businessman Rob Hersov says he is in favour of the United States (US) cutting aid and funding to South Africa.

This comes after the US government reportedly made a list of over 40 SA politicians and radical ideologues – each of them under consideration for targeted sanctions, as reported by The South African.

In February, US President Donald Trump halted federal funding to South Africa, accusing the government of doing bad things to minority groups. Last week, he imposed tariffs on South Africa as well as other countries.

Rob Hersov says US must punish ANC

Asked about the deteriorating relationship between the US and South Africa, Hersov said the US needed to punish the ANC government.

“Well deserved”, he replied to Lelethu Shayi. “I think America is right. In just about every United Nations vote, South Africa doesn’t even read and probably don’t do their homework; they just vote against America. They take aid from America, they treat America with disdain,” Rob Hersov said.

“It’s about time America say to South Africa, ‘Stuff you’ particularly to the ANC. There are 100% right, South Africa are behaving like spoilt idiots and because it’s the ANC, everyone’s like ‘oh the liberation organisation’, well still 2008, fair enough, ANC did a good job but when the clowns of Zuma and Ramaphosa came in, they treated the west with disdain and taking the money.”

Rob Hersov says ANC have treated the west with disdain

Hersov warned the ANC that more sanctions were coming from the US soon.

“The ANC’s foreign policy is simply who gives us the money, not the country. Cyril has always put ANC ahead of the country even publicly, it’s disgusting. So America is absolutely right to be doing what it’s doing and more is to come.”

What’s your thoughts on Hersov’s stance?
