The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the brutal killing of a one-year-old toddler.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 30 June 2024, at around 13:00 in Zuma View, Bela Bela, within the Waterberg District. The suspect, a 22-year-old male, allegedly strangled the toddler while the child was asleep in the room.

According to reports, the toddler’s mother was outside the room when the suspect, who is the mother’s nephew, entered and strangled the sleeping child.
The child’s grandfather was called for help and managed to push the suspect away. Despite being rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, the child was later pronounced dead.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, unequivocally condemned the incident.
She urged parents to ensure the safety and protection of their children at all times. The suspect is set to appear before the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder. Police investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
