Cat tongues are more than just for licking
Cat tongues are covered in tiny, backward-facing spines called papillae. These papillae are made of keratin, the same material as human fingernails and cat claws. When cats groom themselves, the papillae act like miniature combs, detangling their fur and removing dirt and debris. This helps to keep their coat clean and healthy. The papillae also help cats to remove meat from bones when they eat, making them efficient hunters.
