Miss Universe 2024 1st runner-up Chidimma Adetshina is making headlines after she reportedly announced that she is relocating to Nigeria for good due to personal reasons.
During a recent press conference, she announced that she moving to Nigeria permanently.
Chidimma has been trending after winning the Miss Universe Africa and Oceania crown in Mexico at the 73rd Miss Universe edition.
WAS CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA’S RELOCATION TO NIGERIA ON THE CARDS?
She became the first Nigerian to place in the top five of the beauty pageant. Against her big win, she has been making headlines in Nigeria.
During the press conference, she also revealed that, as much as she would like to explore more, she thinks it is now the end of the road for her.
However, she left many to guess ‘the road’ she was referring to.
Chidimma Adetshina said, “I am really proud of where I got to. And feel like that not only did I make myself proud, but I made Nigeria proud and Africa proud.
“This is the end of the road. I am hoping to further my studies and get to better myself.”
However, news of her relocation has not shocked many since she once revealed her plans to stay in Nigeria.
During her interview with Cool FM Nigeria in August, Chidimma Adetshina jokingly said, “I think it’s safe to say I’m not going back.”
The 23-year-old added, “It’s been amazing. I’m not even looking forward to going back [to South Africa]. I just want to explore more. I want to stay longer and see what happens next.”
CITIZENSHIP WOES AND IDENTITY FRAUD CLAIMS
News of her relocation comes barely after the Department of Home Affairs announced that her mother has been barred from entering South Africa.
This prohibition comes after the department announced a few months ago that Chidimma Adetshina’s mother was involved in an identity theft case.
In August, South Africans questioned Chidimma Adetshina’s nationality after she revealed that she was born to a South African mother (Zulu) of Mozambican descent and a Nigerian father.
Her claims led to a national debate, and the Department of Home Affairs later investigated the case.
The department found prima facie evidence to believe that Adetshina’s mother, a Mozambican, “may have committed fraud” in 2001.
Against the investigation, she withdrew from Miss SA, citing safety concerns. However, amid the investigations, the two were seemingly allowed to travel.
Chidimma Adetshina left for Nigeria after being invited to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria and has yet to return to South Africa since then
She won the Miss Universe Nigeria crown, which led to her participation in Miss Universe 2024.
