Kaizer Chiefs and other top PSL sides could be on red alert if Percy Tau, as expected, leaves Al Ahly at the end of this season. Amakhosi have also been linked with impressive defender Thabang Matuludi.
Percy Tau’s time at Al Ahly is done
Egyptian giants Al Ahly, with whom Percy Tau has won 10 major honours, wish to sell the South African winger to recoup some of the R34.4 million fee (in today’s terms) they shelled out to sign him from Brighton in 2021. Although 30-year-old Tau has been a rock-solid performer for them, they feel his performances have stagnated. Tau has scored 29 goals and supplied 13 assists in 116 Al Ahly outings.
Mokwana isn’t moving to Kaizer Chiefs, for now
Elias Mokwana looked on the brink of an exit from Esperance last week after his club reportedly breached their contract with the 25-year-old over failed payments. The situation looks a lot different now, however. Mokwana will return to Esperance once he’s done with international duty for South Africa against South Sudan. Bafana meets the South Sudanese side on Tuesday 19 November.
“On Friday we had a discussion with the club, and we were able to find each other,” Mashigo said.
“The club has essentially rectified its breach, meaning they are no longer in breach and have complied with the terms of the contract to date.
“Elias will be returning to Tunis to fulfil his obligations as per the contract once he is done with national duty,” his attorney assured the public broadcaster.
