How Kaizer Chiefs plan to use new signing Bongani Sam

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has explained how the technical team plans to utilize Bongani Sam.

Sam was signed during the off-season following his departure from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

The left-footed defender is yet to make his official debut for Chiefs due to injury, but he got some minutes this past weekend.

Sam was introduced as a substitute in the inaugural Home of Legends Cup against Golden Arrows.

Chiefs won that match 2-0 to book their place in the final where they faced and beat Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties.

Now, Kaze, who led the team in the absence of Nasreddine Nabi, said they plan to gradually introduce Sam.

According to Kaze, giving Sam too many minutes may somehow affect his progress, saying they want to keep working on him.

When he returns to the pitch, Sam has a tough assignment of trying to take the jersey from Bradley Cross.

Cross also joined Chiefs during the off-season from Golden Arrows, and he has been in top form for the club since his arrival.

Now, Sam will have to work hard to make that left-back position his own at Chiefs.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO KEEP WORKING ON SAM

“Bongani Sam has been injured for some time and we didn’t want to rush him into many minutes,” said Kaze as per Sowetan.

“We want to give him minutes gradually. He played between 15 and 20 minutes this morning [Saturday]. We felt this is just the beginning, we will keep working on him as everyone else.”

IS THIS THE WAY TO GO?
