Cape Town Spurs have given an update to the club’s players about Ernst Middendorp following the club’s difficult start in the second-tier league.
Middendorp has endured a challenging start to the season, and the former Betway Premiership club is just a point ahead of the club at the basement of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Urban Warriors have a mere two victories from their first ten matches of the 2024/25 season so far. They have lost five and drew three times. This disappointing run has left them languishing in 13th place.
Speculation had been rife regarding Middendorp’s future, but the club’s management has moved to quell these rumours. In a team meeting on Tuesday morning, players were informed that the experienced coach would remain at the helm.
CT Spurs reaffirmed their commitment to the German despite the club’s underwhelming start to the Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The club’s chairman, Ari Efstathiou, a key figure within the club, reportedly expressed confidence in Middendorp’s ability to turn the tide.
“We were told that management believes in the coach and his vision,” a source stated. “We are also confident that the coach will guide us to better results.”
As CT Spurs strive to climb the league table, the club’s supporters will be hoping that Middendorp can inspire a turnaround and propel the team towards a more successful second half of the season.
ERNST MIDDENDORP BEMOANS POOR REFEREEING
The former Maritzburg United coach recently called on SAFA and the PSL to investigate the standard of officiating in the second tier.
The Urban Warriors got demoted from the top-flight last season and are aiming to make a quick comeback to the elite ranks next season.
He believes some of his team’s poor results are down to the officiating in the second tier.
Middendorp added that if South African football wants to progress, investigations should be conducted to examine officiating in the second tier.
