Gauteng police have shot and killed five suspects in Riverlea following an alleged robbery in Johannesburg CBD on Sunday morning.
The suspects were gunned down on Sunday afternoon.
ALLEGED ROBBERY SUSPECTS SHOT AND KILLED
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Gauteng, captain Tintswalo Sibeko said a crime intelligence-driven operation was conducted on Sunday, 13 July, by a multidisciplinary team.
Sibeko said the operation followed information about a business robbery that occurred at a shop in Johannesburg Central on Sunday morning,
“When the members attempted to stop the suspects at Riverlea, the suspects opened fire, leading to a shootout. Three suspects were fatally shot, and the fourth suspect was declared dead by paramedics without sustaining any injuries.
“Preliminary investigation revealed two unlicensed firearms were recovered so far, along with the robbed items. The police are investigating business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms,” she explained.

Meanwhile, three suspects were fatally shot in yet another shootout with the police and law enforcement agencies on the N3 road on 4 July.
A multi-disciplinary team reportedly operationalised intelligence information about cash-in-transit suspects traveling in a Toyota Fortuner SUV vehicle from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.
“The team kept surveillance on the N3 road for the vehicle. Upon attempting to stop it, the vehicle sped off, and a chase ensued, which resulted in a shootout between the suspects and the police. Three suspects were shot dead and two unlicensed firearms were recovered in the suspects’ vehicle,” police said.
