Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter has outlined why his bosses need to be patient with the club’s progress into the new season.

Truter was speaking following Richards Bay’s 2-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

In the current campaign, the Natal Rich Boyz have played six games, winning one, drawing two, and losing three in the process.

As a result, the KwaZulu-Natal team is currently positioned in 13th place in the SA top-flight, having earned five points. The club certainly wouldn’t want to repeat their 15th-place finish from last season and be forced to participate in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs again.

WHAT DID BRANDON TRUTER SAY ABOUT CLUB’S HIERARCHY HAVING PATIENCE

Brakkies observed that it is only six games into the season, and the club should exercise patience, considering their background and the players they have available.

“That’s always been the challenge [patience]. I have experienced it before, and we say we’re building, revamping, and covering, but the results don’t go our way,” said Truter.

“Rather than that, it requires patience. We need to consider where the team comes from and the players that we have at our disposal.

“So far, I’m happy with the build-up, and I’m pleased with the defence. We conceded two goals [against Sekhukhune], which is unlike us, but in the midfield, we did very well in competing with the likes of Sipho Mbule. You could see the confidence of Yanela Mbuthuma; he was called up to the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad [for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers].

The former AmaZulu FC, Sekhukhune and the now-defunct Moroka Swallows coach continued: “It’s a young team, and we need to build on that. The season is still young; we are in match five or six, so we are looking forward to what we can build on.”

The club will now shift their focus on their Carling Black Label Knockout Cup quarter-final encounter with Cape Town City Fc on Saturday, 2 November 2024. This match will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium, with the kick-off set for 15:00.
