Polokwane City FC moved into the top three on the league table following their victory against Royal AM, while SuperSport United dropped points against Golden Arrows.
Rise and Shine beat Royal AM 1-0 in the Betway Premiership at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night, thanks to a goal by Bonginkosi Dlamini. The Limpopo-based side has had a great start to the 2024/25 season after winning three matches, drawing two and losing once in six league games.
Polokwane City are sitting third on the table behindMamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who occupy second and first positions, respectively.Â
City came into the clash against AM with their tails high after claiming a big 1-0 over Sundowns at Peter Mokaba Stadium this past weekend. They handed Sundowns their first defeat of the season with a late goal from Bulelani Nikani.
The two sides were facing each other for the second time this season after Masandawana luckily knocked City out of the first round of the 2024 MTN8.
POLOKWANE CITY SINK ROYAL AM WITH A SECOND-HALF GOAL
In a match against Thwihli Thwahla, City created a handful of promising attacks. However, they were wasteful in front of goal. City eventually found the back of the net late in the second-half to walk away with all three points.
Meanwhile, SuperSport failed to collect maximum points after sharing the spoils with Abafana Bes’thende at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday.
Matsatsantsa have been blowing hot and cold since the start of the campaign after struggling to find a consistent winning form.
In their previous match, SuperSport clinched a slender 1-0 victory over Amakhosi last weekend at Peter Mokaba Stadium. The Spartans have won two games in the league, drew twice and lost three times in seven encounters.
The 0-0 draw against Arrows left Gavin Hunt’s troops lying ninth on the log with 11 points. On the other hand, Arrows are positioned 10th on the table with seven after winning two games, drawing one and suffering three defeats.
