At the very top of my bucket list? Becoming the IT girl: Always looking put together and effortlessly stylish.
One strategy that will help me get there is the three-colour rule, which could also revolutionise your wardrobe.
The guideline is straightforward: to achieve a polished, well-balanced, and stylish look, keep your outfits to no more than three colours.
Starting with a neutral base, such as white, black, beige, or denim, instantly gives your outfit structure and classic appeal.
To add personality to the fit, use a single primary colour, such as rich chocolate brown(I must admit, this colour is gorgeous!), soft lilac, or forest green.
Then, to bring everything together, add a third accent colour, such as a bold handbag, gold hoops, or a red lip.
Because it’s the winter season!
Olive trousers, black boots and a chocolate brown coat
With their layered textures, this earthy trio feels grounded, stylish, and completely winter-ready while adding warmth and richness to your ensemble.
Gold jewellery, a blush pink skirt, and cream knitwear
This dreamy outfit is ideal for a gentle winter day; pair it with tights and boots for a touch of romance and warmth.
Black crop top, silver accessories and grey wide-leg trousers
A sleek, modern winter outfit. Without detracting from the colour harmony, throw on a long grey cardigan or a black coat.
Wearing only three colours keeps your outfit looking intentional and avoids the “threw everything on” effect that occurs when too many colours clash.
It also looks great with prints. You just need to make sure they don’t overpower the eye by deviating from your chosen colour scheme.
The three-colour rule definitely gives every outfit an IT girl vibe, whether you’re dressing for errands or going to a brunch with the girls.
