Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi will not appreciate Neil Tovey’s comments.
NEIL TOVEY SAYS KAIZER CHIEFS FAILED IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP
It’s official. Amakhosi have not made the top 8 after finishing the season in ninth place with only eight wins out of 28 matches.
Despite beating the likes of Stellenbosch FC, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates to win the Nedbank Cup, Tovey believes Kaizer Chiefs have had a poor season.
“While they won a trophy, the league standings are always the benchmark for evaluating our performance throughout the season,” Tovey told KickOff.
“Kaizer Chiefs have been poor, to be honest. In football, you are judged by your league position.
“Given the stature of Chiefs, they should be a top three team, yet here they are in 9th place. That’s really disappointing.
“It’s not good at all. Many can be held accountable for this, including the players and the coaching staff. Yes, they won a trophy for the first time in 10 years, which is unusual for Kaizer Chiefs. Typically, they don’t go more than one or two years without a trophy.
“However, winning a trophy doesn’t equate to having a good season. You will ultimately be judged by your league position. Consistency is key,” Tovey concluded.
