Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen was criticised for the high murder rate in the Cape Flats by South African businessman Johann Rupert during a meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump.
The two presidents met at the White House on Wednesday. Rupert and Steenhuisen were part of Ramaphosa’s delegation at the Oval Office in the United States.
Johann Rupert says not only white farmers are killed in SA
During the highly anticipated meeting, Trump surprised Ramaphosa by playing a montage of video clips featuring EFF leader Julius Malema singing the song “Kill the Boer.” The South African president told Trump that Malema was not in government but Trump was having none of it.
Rupert told the US leader that Malema’s videos were not an accurate reflection of what was happening in South Africa.
“It’s not only white farmers, but it’s across the board,” the billionaire said.
“We need technological help. We need Starlink at every little police station.”
Johan Rupert also took the opportunity to highlight the issue of gang violence in the Cape Flats.
“The crime is terrible sir, but Mr Steenhuisen won’t admit but he runs the Western Cape where I live. The biggest murder rate is in the Cape Flats. Gangs..we got gang welfare like your M-13. We’ve got equivalents there,” he said.
Do you think Rupert was the MVP?
