A long road to recovery for Rushwin Dortley
In March 2025, Rushwin Dortley underwent knee surgery to address an issue that was far more serious than initially thought. There are no specifics on a timeframe for his recovery, but it’s unlikely we’ll see him play any competitive football before September. Still, the player will feel that the worst is over. It’s also not uncommon for players to become more resilient and mentally tough after serious setbacks so early in their careers.
Dortley is already a key player for Kaizer Chiefs
The first half of the campaign was one to forget for Chiefs. Rushwin Dortley, however, was one of the true bright sparks of a season threatening to peter out into nothing. The 23-year-old central defender from Cape Town immediately looked assured and at home in big matches for Chiefs, and indeed South Africa. The left-footed ball-player quickly became a key pillar in the defence, making 21 appearances across all competitions before being struck down. The technical team will need to be cautious when they reintroduce him to the fold after such a lengthy layoff, but it’s undoubtedly a huge plus to see him on the comeback trail. Many observers feel he was the club’s best performer until the untimely injury.

Chiefs take aim at Polokwane City
Despite going behind early in the contest, Nabi’s Kaizer Chiefs secured what might prove to be a massive point away to Sekhukhune in a 1-1 draw thanks to Glody Lilepo’s equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time. It means the Glamour Boys can guarantee an MTN8 place with a win on the final day at home against Polokwane City. However, Polokwane sit two points above Chiefs, although their MTN8 place is already sealed. Chiefs vs Polokwane kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday, 24 May.
