Kaizer Chiefs can now get Asanele Velebayifor free ahead of next season following Cape Town Spurs‘ relegation.
Spurs were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League this past weekend.
This is Spurs’ second successive relegation after having been relegated from the topflight over a season ago.
Now, effectively, all their players, contracted or not, are free agents as they are no longer in the professional ranks.
Velebayi, an exciting player that Chiefs wanted to sign for R4 million from Spurs, has a chance to join Amakhosi.
However, that will depend on whether or not Chiefs are still interested in signing the 23-year-old attacker given interest from other teams.
KAIZER CHIEFS TO POUNCE ON FREE AGENT VELEBAYI?
“SABC Sport can confirm that Cape Town Spurs captain Asanele Velebayi – as per NSL rules – is now a free agent after the Urban Warriors were relegated to the amateur ranks on Sunday,” reports SABC Sport.
“The public broadcaster reached out to several experts who spoke on condition of anonymity to confirm whether the attacker would be remaining with Spurs beyond the current season.”
“No, his contract is of a professional nature and as far as I understand the procedures Asanele and his teammates are effectively free agents and can get their clearances tomorrow if need be,” one of them explained.
WILL AMAKHOSI BE THE FIRST TO SHOW INTEREST?
