Police in Lentegeur, Cape Town, have launched an attempted murder investigation following a disturbing incident at a Mitchells Plain butchery on Sunday, 11 May 2025.
According to a police media statement, a 17-year-old boy was allegedly tricked into drinking a liquid from a cool drink bottle. It was later found that the liquid contains acid.
The teen experienced severe cramps and vomiting shortly after consuming the substance. He was admitted to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
CAPE TOWN TEEN HOSPITALISED AFTER ACID PRANK
The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 on Sunday. It was only reported to the police the following day, 12 May 2025, by a family member.
It is believed that the boy was admitted to the Groote Schuur hospital for treatment.
Authorities have since closed the butchery pending further investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage.
CAPE TOWN KIDS DIED IN FIRE
Two children, aged 10 and 4, died after a devastating fire tore through their home while the family was asleep. Emergency services discovered their bodies among the burned remains of the house.
Authorities later identified the victims as 4-year-old Lamar Saaiman and 10-year-old Shanique Geduld.
Their parents suffered serious burn injuries while trying to rescue them and were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.
Police confirmed they have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A family member who spoke to IOL said she woke up to the sound of a loud explosion and ran outside in a panic, thinking it was a bomb.
