Orlando Pirates are making moves.

The Soweto giants have reportedly acquired one of the PSL’s most in-form midfielders this season and could soon snatch a long-term Kaizer Chiefs target.

Rumours around the league

  • Orlando Pirates are eyeing Fiston Mayele and could sway him from admirers AmaKhosi, who has been in negotiations with the Congolese international since Nasreddine Nabi’s arrival. The 30-year-old is said to be entertaining the Buccaneers’ offer.
  • Stellenbosch midfielder Sihle Nduli is said to have verbally agreed to a move with Pirates and will transfer once his contract expires at the end of June.
  • Sekhukhune United could see left-back Vuyo Letlapa head to the Soweto giants this offseason. According to reports, the Buccaneers are in talks with the rising star.
  • Striker Zakhele Lepasa is on the brink of a return to TS Galaxy, who are in talks with the 28-year-old.
  • The jury is still out on what the future entails for Monnapule Saleng, who is yet to feature for the Buccaneers this season. One can only presume the longer he’s left out, the higher the chances of an offseason move.

More on Mayele

Kaizer Chiefs, who face Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final tomorrow, have longed for the services of Mayele but could lose out, as they did with Nduli, to their bitter rivals.

“Mayele’s camp is testing the waters and trying to see if Pirates are willing to make a concrete move. Given the current situation, both in terms of Pirates’ need for a proven striker and Mayele’s availability, this could be a very real transfer possibility,” a source revealed.

“It’s no secret that Pirates are in the market for a reliable goal-scorer, and after what Mayele did to them on the continental stage, it’s clear he could be that guy.”
