It appears Vuyo Zungula’s African Transformation Movement (ATM) is not the only one against the Constitutional Court’s decision to declare the Citizenship Act unconstitutional, as citizens express frustration.

Helen Zille and the Democratic Alliance (DA) have quickly become public enemy number one due to the Constitutional Court’s ruling of section 6 (1)(a) of the Citizenship Act as unconstitutional after they initiated and drove a well-orchestrated legal challenge that played a pivotal role in the decision.

According to South Africa’s Constitution, Section 6 (1)(a) of the Citizenship Act states that ” A South African citizen shall cease to be a South African citizen if— (a) he or she, whilst a major and not under legal disability, by some voluntary and formal act, other than marriage, acquires the citizenship or nationality of a country other than the Republic.”

The ConCourt’s decision has been met with an overwhelming response, and has seen citizens voicing their frustration, opposition and rejection of the ruling. Among those is Vuyo Zungula’s ATM, who has boldly stated their opposing stance regarding the ruling, highlighting that allowing individuals who have sworn their allegiance to a different nation to hold on to their South African citizenship is a betrayal that no self-respecting nation would allow.

Vuyo also uses this opportunity to express that he believes that the best course of action would be to do away with the current Constitution, and rather come up with a new one that is forged through the voices of regular South African citizens.

This sentiment appears to be echoed by the masses, as they have taken to social media to label Helen Zille and the DA as a racist party, citing their recent movements, such as challenging the Employment Equity Act, the NHI Bill, and now the Citizenship Act, all of which directly affect the black population.

These users also highlight the negative impact that this decision will have on the country, including even more strain on the country’s overwhelmed resources, as well as the return of dangerous individuals, such as those who declared for the Israel Defence Force (IDF).
