Dolly Parton, the legendary country music star, opened up about the heartbreak she’s felt since the death of her husband, Carl Dean.
After 60 years together, Carl passed away on 3 March in Nashville at the age of 82.
DOLLY PARTON GETS CANDID
Dolly, now 79, has been candid about her grief, sharing her emotions with fans around the world. The couple’s love story began in 1964 at Nashville’s Wishy Washy Laundromat.
Dolly was just 18. “I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old,” she wrote on Instagram. Two years later, they married, starting a partnership that would last a lifetime, according to the Daily Mail.
Carl, who inspired hits like Jolene, always preferred life out of the spotlight. Dolly once said, “He’s always been my biggest fan behind the scenes, but he’s at home”.

Dolly’s griefis raw. In a recent interview, she fought back tears as she recalled their six decades together.
“We were together 60 years. I’ve loved him since I was 18 years old,” she said, her voice trembling. She added, “I get very emotional when people bring it up”.
The outpouring of support from fans has touched her deeply. “I’m so thankful. I’ve gotten so many cards, letters, flowers, from all over the world,” she shared.
DEALING WITH GRIEF
In the weeks after Carl’s passing, Dolly Parton admitted, “I’m doing better than I thought I would. I’ve been with him for 60 years.
So, I’m going to have to relearn some of the things that we’ve done. But I’ll keep him always close.”
She added, “It’s a hole in my heart, you know, but we’ll fill that up with good stuff and he’ll still always be with me”.
Carl’s final days were difficult. Dolly revealed, “He suffered a great deal. I’m at peace that he’s at peace, but that doesn’t keep me from missing him and loving him”.
‘I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU’
The music world paid tribute at the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th Anniversary. Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and others performed I Will Always Love You.
Dolly Parton wrote, “I have not stopped crying over the beautiful tribute… All those beautiful people with all their beautiful voices singing my song as a tribute to my husband Carl. The emotion was beyond words”.
Dolly has dedicated her new song, If You Hadn’t Been There, to Carl. “Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story,” she said.
As she faces the future, Dolly remains grateful. “He is in God’s arms now, and I am okay with that. I will always love you,” she wrote, echoing the words of her most famous song.
