‘Kaizer Chiefs deserved a penalty’ – Nabi reacts to Pirates defeat

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi felt his team deserved a penalty following their 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium.

Goals from Evidence Makgopa and Relebohile Mofokeng cancelled out Makabi Lilepo’s opener. The result sees the Buccaneers complete back-to-back league doubles over their rivals.

Speaking after the match, Nabi felt referee Eugene Mdluli should have awarded his side an early penalty. With Amakhosi leading 1-0, Mbekezeli Mbokazi appeared to bring to have brought down Mduduzi Shabalala inside the box. No penalty was given and Nabi said the game could have been different if the referee had given Kaizer Chiefs the penalty.

“I don’t think it’s a psychological thing,” he told SuperSport TV.

“When we were leading 1-0 there was a clear penalty. If we get the penalty the game is going to be completely different.

Nabi says Kaizer Chiefs gave Pirates the win

“It was individual mistakes that gave the opportunity to the opponent. We feel today we gave the victory to the opponent,” Nabi said.

The recent defeat has caused the Chiefs to drop to ninth place in the Betway Premiership, marking their 12th loss of the season.

Amakhosi must win their last two matches to have any chance of finishing in the top eight. Nabi’s first season at Kaizer Chiefs has been disappointing, with the team managing only eight wins out of 26 matches in the Betway Premiership this season.
