Rachel Kolisi – the former partner of Sharks and Springbok player Siya Kolisi – has shared her firsthand, traumatic account of experiencing the Cape Town fires on her doorstep.
The mother of two – who is also stepmom to Siya’s younger siblings – revealed how she almost fled her home in an emergency evacuation.
RACHEL KOLISI DOCUMENTS TRAUMATIC FAMILY EXPERIENCE
Over the past week, Rachel Kolisi has been documenting her accountof the Cape Town wildfires, which began in the Tokai forest and spread to surrounding areas.
The blaze reached the back of Kolisi’s home, which is located near Table Mountain. Luckily, firefighters and community volunteers managed to contain the flames in time.
In an Instagram Story, Rachel revealed that the ordeal traumatised her entire family.
She shared: “We were all terrified. I didnt sleep so I could keep an eye on the fire”.
After a sleepless night, Siya and Rachel Kolisi’s kids as well as this siblings, were helped by neighbours and friends.
She continued: ‘I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.”
She added, “Gives me a whole new perspective”.
WHO STARTED THE FIRE?
Meanwhile, authorities have revealed that one man has been arrested for attempting to start a fire along the Cape Peninsula.
However, police say the fire is not related to the one that started in the Tokai forest.
SANParks has conducted a preliminary investigation, which indicates that the blaze was ignited intentionally at three locations.
