Former Orlando Pirateswinger Lebohang Mokoenafeels Pitso Mosimane joining the Buccaneers might not be a good thing.
The 38-year-old retired winger worked under Mosimane at Sundowns, winning several trophies. Since Jose Riveiro announced that he was leaving Pirates at the end of the season, there has been speculation on who might replace him.
One name that has been thrown around is that of Pitso Mosimane. ‘Jingles’ has been out of work for months since leaving Iran and has made himself available to ‘any club’ that might require his services.
Speaking on Soccer Beatpodcast, Mokoena said Pitso joining Orlando Pirates might come with challenges.
“I heard some legends mentioned that a guy like Pitso taking charge could bring the glory days and also try and fill up that cabinet that coach Ribeiro has, but I think it’s going to be a bit of a challenge in my opinion,” said ‘Cheeseboy’.
“He is capable of coaching a team like Orlando Pirates, but knowing coach Pitso, I think he is one man that likes to be in charge of his team, one man that likes to dictate a lot in terms of the happenings around the club. At Pirates, it’s going to be a challenge when it comes to that because when Pitso comes, he needs to come with his team.
Pitso to Orlando Pirates might not work, says Mokoena
The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger said the type of football the team plays was different to what Mosimane prefers.
“He has his own technical team, he has his own administrative people he works with, so that might be a challenge. But for him going to Pirates, it would be good, at the same time it’s not going to work when it comes to Orlando Pirates fans.
“Also, coach Pitso brings a different philosophy to the type of football Orlando Pirates plays. Are the fans going to be patient?” Mokoena asked.
Cheeseboy also mentioned the fact that Jingles might want to do away with certain players who were already loved by fans.
Cheeseboy feels Pitso might anger Orlando Pirates fans
“Are they going to be patient for him to get his philosophy running and get the players he needs? Obviously he might want to add this and that and say ‘I don’t need this type of a player’ and he might release a fan favourite and that might cause chaos with him and the fans,” he said.
Who should be the next Pirates coach?
