Three Limpopo cyclists, popularly known as the Gauta BMX trio, took a daunting journey from Burgersfort to Cape Town to raise funds and the awareness of drugs and gangsterism.

The trio consisting of 24-year-old Max Ndou, 23-year-old Gauta Mahlakoane and 22-year-old Karabo Mokoo recently had a setback with one of their own, Max, who had to step back from the race and seek medical attention after he sustained a knee injury.

With only 320 KM left to reach their dreams, the trio had to wait for Max to recover so they could reach their destination together. In a video shared by MDN News on their X (formerly Twitter), Gauta and Karabo confirmed that they would wait for him before they resumed their journey.

The trio has faced sunrises, sunsets, rain, wind and even injuries together for almost a week en route to Cape Town. Drum reported that the cyclists have had to sleep at police stations or petrol stations for safety. They were expected to arrive in Cape Town by Sunday, and had planned overnight stops in Leeu Gamka, Laingsburg, Worcester and the Mother City. However, with one of them injured, their plans might have to change slightly.

DJ Karri took to his X page to share that the trio has decided to cut the kilometres and will start again 30 KM away to Cape Town, to accommodate Max while his knee is being treated.
