Former DA leader Helen Zille is hoping for a “no-holds barred” grilling on the Showmax Roast,set to take place next month. Except for one condition – no mention of her kids.

The 74-year-old follows in the footsteps of celebs like Minnie Dlamini, Khanyi Mbau, Pearl Thusi, Steve Hofmeyr, and the late AKA, who have all been roasted by a panel of shady fellow stars.

HELEN ZILLE SAYS HANDS OFF KIDS!

Last week, Helen Zille announced that she would star in the next Showmax Roast, which will be filmed during the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival, which will take place from 2 to 4 May at the Sandton Convention Centre.

As a sharp-tongued politician, Helen is expecting a taste of her own medicine.

She said of the upcoming show: “I say it like it is, and I get roasted on social media and in the press all the time. So why not put it on the main stage?

“If people are going to laugh, I’d rather join them, showing Africa I can dish it out as much as I take it”.

Helen Zille is hoping that one of her biggest critics – Julius Malema – will join the panel who will roast her.

She’s also keen for Showmax to rope in Leon Schuster, who has previously pranked her on his 2010 hit film Schuks Tshabalala’s Survival Guide to South Africa.

However, the DA Federal Chair has one non-negotiable clause – her kids are off limits.

She added: “My children didn’t sign up for my political career. I’ve got two sons who’ve been unbelievably decent, loyal, and honourable and have given a lot to society. But they are off-limits because they did not sign up for my job. You can still joke about my husband because he’s like me; it washes off his back.”

WHO ARE HER FAMILY?

While Helen Zille’s political persona is public knowledge, there is also another side to the sassy serial X user.

Helen is married to retired professor Johann Maree, who has a PhD in sociology from the University of Cape Town. The couple married in 1982.�

The couple have two sons together; Paul and Thomas.

Paul, who married Gretl Visser in 2014 – is a mathematics teacher and founder of Paper Video, an organisation that distributes educational resources to students around the country.

He’s also a member of Beams, a music band that has played at several of Cape Town’s hot spots. Thomas is a digital marketing manager and has worked for Showmax and CNBC Africa. He bears a striking resemblance to his mother.

Helen Zille is also a grandmother to Mila, the daughter of Paul and Gretl.

“She is delightful,” Helen tweeted in 2017.
