Morena Ramoreboli lands new coaching job

SA coach Morena Ramoreboli has accepted a new coaching job, this time leading a national team on the African continent.

The move represents a significant step in Ramoreboli’s career as he transitions from the club level to the international stage.

Ramoreboli has been coaching in Botswana for four years now after joining Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The former Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach has made his name in the Botswana league after Galaxy’s dominant performances.

So far, he has clinched three titles, including two Botswana Premier League titles and the Orange FA Cup. In addition, Ramoreboli has guided Galaxy to back-to-back appearances in the CAF Champions League group stages in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

MORENA RAMOREBOLI APPOINTED BOTSWANA SENIOR MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM INTERIM COACH

Ramoreboli has been appointed as the Botswana senior men’s national team interim coach. This comes after the resignation of coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa.

The 43-year-old has been tasked with qualifying for the 2025 AFCON finals. The tournament will be held in Morocco. The Zebras have two matches left, against Mauritania and Egypt.

“The Botswana Football Association wishes to inform members of the public and the football community about the appointment of Mr Morena Ramoreboli as the Botswana Senior Men’s National Team interim Head Coach,” reads the statement.

“The decision to recruit Mr Morena Ramoreboli was approved by the Botswana Football Association National Executive Committee. This follows the sudden resignation of Mr Didier Gomes Da Rosa from his post as the Zebras Head Coach.

“The Senior Men’s National Team known as ‘The Zebras’ is left with two crucial AFCON qualifiers matches against Mauritania and Egypt. They just need one victory against Mauritania to qualify for the AFCON 2025. The appointment of the coach is meant to minimise anxiety and distraction around the Zebras camp. It is a contingency plan for the immediate future. Mr Ramoreboli will inherit the technical team left by his predecessor, Mr Da Rosa.

“Mr Ramoreboli’s impressive list of coaching honours includes the Botswana Premier League titles and the Orange FA Cup success with Jwaneng Galaxy. In addition, he enjoyed a lot of success in the Champions League with Jwaneng Galaxy.

“Mr Ramoreboli has had much success in his native South Africa. As the U-20 National Head Coach, he won the COSAFA Cup. Fundamentally, Mr Ramoreboli satisfied our recruitment criteria as a coach with the ability and pedigree to give us the best possible chance of qualifying for the AFCON 2025 to be held in Morocco.

“Botswana Football Association wishes to express its unwavering support to the Senior Men’s National Team as they attempt to make their second appearance at the top table of African Football, the AFCON. Mr Ramoreboli and his technical team have a single-minded focus in giving us the best possible chance of going to Morocco AFCON 2025.
