Kaizer Chiefs defender defends aggressive style – ‘I won’t change’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has built a reputation for his aggressive playing style, frequently landing on referees’ radar with yellow and red cards this season. While head coach Nasreddine Nabi initially expressed concern, Miguel remains unapologetic, emphasizing his passion and commitment to the team.

The Angolan international refuses to tone down his intensity, making it clear that his approach is non-negotiable.

‘I will keep doing it until the end of the season’

Speaking at a media briefing at Kaizer Chiefs Village, Miguel revealed that Nabi advised him to be more strategic with his tackles and disciplinary decisions. However, Miguel remains resolute in his style of play.

“I had a meeting with coach Nabi, and he told me to understand the timing and the way to do things. But I told him ‘listen, for me, there is no problem to take a yellow card or a red card if it is for the team and I will keep doing it until the end of the season. But like now, as a team we are doing better than before so that means I’m not so exposed,” Miguel told the media, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

He doubled down on his stance, stating that if a tactical foul is necessary, he won’t hesitate to take one, regardless of the timing.

“And, of course, if I have to make a foul in the 5th minute, it doesn’t matter the time but to help the team not concede a goal, I will do it and take the yellow card. I told him ‘listen, if you don’t want me to do that don’t put me to play because I will do it if I need to do it,’” Miguel added.

Unfazed by Chiefs fan criticism

Miguel remains indifferent to criticism from fans regarding his disciplinary record. He believes his actions ultimately benefit Amakhosi and contribute to the team’s success.

“I don’t mind if the supporters say Miguel is taking too many cards, it doesn’t matter. If the team is winning and I have to take a yellow card in every game I will do it. It is not a problem for me. Of course, I have to be more cautious and understand the timing of the things that I have to do. It is a process and I’m also learning,” Miguel concluded.

Chiefs gear up for Cape Town City clash

Kaizer Chiefs will return to action on Wednesday evening as they host Cape Town City at FNB Stadium in their next Betway Premiership encounter. With Miguel’s unwavering commitment to his aggressive defending, all eyes will be on whether his high-risk approach pays off in a crucial league fixture.
