Metro FM has revealed their nominees for their highly anticipated 19th edition of their music awards. However, viewers could not help but notice the absence of a few notable contenders, leading to a conversation about snubs.

Awards ceremonies are an important aspect of the entertainment industry, as they aim to shine a light and give deserving artists their flowers for standing out among a plethora of talented individuals. Although awards do not determine an artist’s success or failure, they serve as great motivation throughout the course of the year, because we all like to feel special and get recognised for the work we put in from time to time.

Although they get it right a majority of the time, sometimes these institutions do not make the correct call when selecting nominees and winners. After hosting their nominee announcement event, some users have expressed confusion and dissatisfaction with the absence of certain artists and songs from this year’s nominees list.

Cheque- Usimamane

Before releasing his hit sophomore album 20th: Days before Maud,ÂUsimamane enjoyed a few singles that took mzansi by storm. Upon release, it was clear that Cheque would be a certified banger that would take the charts by storm, and as expected, the hit quickly became a must-have on everyone’s playlists. Among other achievements and accolades, Cheque reached gold status with more than 2.4 million streams to its name.  This is why Usimamane fans and music lovers were shocked to see the song noticeably missing from the lone Hiphop category at the Metro FM Music Awards, labeling this an official snub.

Pray 4 Pitori- Loatinover PoundsÂ

In his debut album, Loatinover Pounds delivered a timeless project with Pray 4 Pitori. With hits such as Mamazala, Banyana Bao North, Church on Sundayz and 123 Block Myself, Loatinover proved himself as a notable lyricist and artist in the hip-hop scene. His project embodies a representation of his hometown Pretoria, and has managed to capture the hearts of those that do not speak or understand spitori, which dominates the album.

Despite making his submission, as he has revealed via social media, Loatinover missed out on a nomination from the plethora of hit-songs he delivered, leading fans to doubt Metro’s credibility.

UYAH! – Uncle WafflesÂ

After cementing herself as one of the leading amapiano producers and DJs, Uncle Waffles had a go at the popular gqom genre with her song UYAH!, which the masses dubbed as a banger. The song’s success was characterised by a viral TikTok dance challenge, proving Uncle Waffle’s ear for a banger.

After calls for the song of the year, it is surprising that the song did not score a nomination in the gqom category.

Push 2 Start- TylaÂ

This could be fitting for any Tyla song, and as a global superstar, we are not sure if it makes sense that Tyla is not dominating the nominees list, as anyone can agree that she deserves it as much as anyone else. Could it be that she did make her submissions, maybe to give other kids a chance?
