It never rains but pours for controversial businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, affectionately known as MaMkhize.
The Royal AM owner has been making headlines due to her tax woes with the South African Revenue Service (Sars).
PSL OUTFIT SET TO BE SOLD
She owes the taxman over R40 million, and her debt has since taken a toll on her club, Royal AM, also known as Thwihli Thwahla, which is now under curatorship.
Last week, social media was abuzz after the publication revealed that the club would be sold after the Sars won their case against MaMkhize.
However, she has been fighting tooth and nail to regain control over Royal AM, but nothing materialised after the taxman won the case, seemingly leading to the latest developments.
Last week, it was revealed that the club was set to be sold. Reports show that potential buyers were already negotiating a deal to take over the club.
Reports have it that Sars even advised the Premier League Soccer League to hold its suspension until the sale materialises rather than banning the club.
MAMKHZIE’S ROYAL AM SUFFERS ANOTHER BLOW
However, Royal AM’s sponsorship deal with the Msunduzi Municipality also seems to be over.
Fans were convinced that the club and the municipality had cut ties after photos of municipal workers stripping off Royal AM’s branding from the Harry Gwala Stadium went viral.
In 2023, MaMkhize won a three-year sponsorship deal with the municipality worth R27 million, which was set to end in June 2026.
No doubt the deal also saw MaMkhize’s Royal AM using the Harry Gwala Stadium as their home ground.
However, against her woes, the Democratic Alliance dragged the club to the courts, noting that the sponsorship deal should be cancelled.
The party contends Royal AM was unduly awarded council funds. They argue that the municipality could not continue to fork out public money to an entity that does not comply with the country’s tax laws.
“The payment by the Msunduzi Municipality of any money to the Royal AM sponsorship contract is declared to be unlawful, reviewed and set aside,’ DA noted.
Despite their court case being set for 28 February, fans are more than convinced that the sponsorship deal is already off.
On the other hand, Royal AM and the municipal have yet to address the reports.
COULD THIS BE THE FALL OF MAMKHIZE?
