‘Refugees play for the Springboks’: YouTuber mocks Trump

Media personality and YouTuber Dan Corder has poked fun at US President Donald Trump’s executive orders granting Afrikaners refugee status abroad. The TV and radio personality used the national rugby team – the Springboks – to make a point.

This comes after the controversial statesman signed an executive order allowing white South Africans to “resettle” in America.

Meanwhile, AfriForum – an NGO geared at promoting the rights of Afrikaners – has rejected Trump’s offer.

DAN CORDER MOCKS TRUMP’S REFUGEE STATUS OFFER

In a social media post, former 5FM presenter Dan Corder called out Donald Trump over his views that white South Africans have been “treated very badly” over “race-based discrimination.

As such, the US president offered Afrikaners asylum in their country.

Making light of the offer, the outspoken internet personality compared the complaints of Afrikaners – who he claimed were “refugees” –  to the racial representation made within the national rugby team.

He said, “Isn’t it crazy how many refugees there are in the Springboks? I’m not sure about refugees in other countries.

“But I’m pretty sure [they] don’t get to play for, be glorified, and extremely well paid for the most famous sports team that represents that country.”

He added: “That’s what we love about South Africa, we do things differently. Truly alive with possibility”.

Dan is no doubt referring to many famous faces like Eben Etzebeth, Handre Pollard, RG Snyman and even Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus, who are all a part of the Afrikaner community.

Dan – who is known for toeing the line on touchy subjects – received much backlash to the post criticising Trump.

SPRINGBOKS: ‘WE PLAY FOR OUR COUNTRY’

It has often been repeated by many a Springbok that the support and unification of their South African fans is what drives their success on the pitch.

“We play for you guys and for South Africa,” coach Rassie Erasmus tweeted.

The Boks boss was recently honoured with a Goodwill Award from the FW De Klerk Foundation for helping to “unite South Africans.”

The foundation praised Rassie for his “passion, devotion, and brilliance in leading the Springboks to World Cup glory in 2019 and 2023”.

It added: “His role as coach inspires people from all walks of life, instills pride, and promotes nation-building.”

Rassie’s endeavors polarise Trump’s depiction of South Africa as a country that treats “certain classes of people very badly.”

The US president claims this is a result of “unjust racial discrimination.”
